Brothas and Sistas United (BSU) is the junior high and high school after-school youth program of Cornerstone Community Outreach (CCO), a non-profit social services located in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. This program is designed to help relieve the life stresses of at-risk inner-city youth whose families are homeless, formerly homeless, or living on the edge of independent survival.
Uptown, Chicago’s most racially and economically mixed community, offers its youth tremendous opportunities, as well as tremendous risks. Uptown shares the same problems facing all urban communities: gangs, drugs, prostitution, homelessness, illiteracy, and racial conflict. Boys and girls growing up in this environment face tough challenges. To meet these challenges, Brothas & Sistas United is here to help.
